Alumni Residency for Artistic

Achievement at Künstlerhaus Bethanien

In May 2024, 2023 alumna Dr. Alma Itzhaky will complete the one-month Alumni Residency for Artistic Achievement at Künstlerhaus Bethanien. The LABA Berlin Alumni Residency is a one-month residency awarded to LABA Berlin alumni who have shown excellent artistic promise and professional development. Leveraging the resources and network of both Künstlerhaus Bethanian and the LABA community, the residency is designed to further propel and nurture the outstanding artists in our alumni community in need of studio space and professional support.

Künstlerhaus Bethanien is an international culture center in Berlin. Their International Studio Program provides professional artists with work and exhibition spaces aiming to advance contemporary visual artists and encourage lively dialogue between artists of various backgrounds and disciplines together with the public at large. By hosting a variety of public events such as monthly Open Studios and exhibition openings, Künstlerhaus Bethanien offers its artists-in-residence a unique opportunity for critical self reflection and creativity within its world renowned status and network.

The selection criteria for the LABA Berlin Alumni Residency encompasses a multifaceted approach to identify and support emerging artists poised for professional development and support. Artists are evaluated based on their demonstrated promise and work ethic, alongside the clarity of their unique artistic vision and perspective. The feasibility of the proposed projects and the artistic disciplines’ compatibility with the available studio space are also considered. Given our partnership with Künstlerhaus Bethanien, visual artists whose work requires a studio space are prioritized. Our objective is to select either one or a pair of artists for the residency. We also place emphasis on an artist’s contribution to their community and ability to foster a collaborative environment that is conducive to mutual support and growth.
