Ioana Lungu

Ioana Lungu is a self-taught film photographer whose work explores the intersection of light, emotion, and place. Born and raised in Bucharest, she lived in Addis Ababa from 2018 to 2024 before relocating to Berlin. Working with film for its slowness and sense of temporal transcendence, she captures fleeting moments of intimacy, often centering narratives of people existing with ease and dignity beyond Western hegemonic frames. Her imagery reflects a quiet resistance to chaos—whether political, emotional, or spiritual—and traces her own evolving religious journey as a source of grounding amid diasporic dislocation. Ioana finds inspiration in the never-ending interplay of light and shadow, and the way they transform spaces and emotions. Her photography has been exhibited in several group shows in Ethiopia and featured on digital platforms focused on African and diasporic perspectives.
